Gen 2 remote already dead ?

by FrayDabson

Update: ended up contacting Amazon and they are shipping me a new shield. (Couldn't just ship me a remote, have to do the full device)

So I picked up a gen 2 shield TV off Amazon this week. Has been pretty awesome so far. Except I think my remote already died.. I know it's supposed to last a year and there were some known issues with it that were fixed in a firmware update. My remote is on 1.03 and I tried removing batteries and putting them back in but my controller just does not want to work. Thankfully my Samsung TV remote works with the shield (or the gaming controller) so I have a workaround but I rather use the shield remote. Anyone have any ideas or should I just order some new batteries ??

I've had this issue as well. Haven't figured out a solution yet.

Same issue here. Remote would not work out of box. Put new batteries in. Got it to work. Dead the next day.

I had same issue with my remote after purchasing unit from Best buy today. Found a solution - fully take the battery tray out and re-insert. Then hold down the home, microphone and back buttons for 10 secs and release. This appears to have re-set my remote and it works now. Good luck.

hold it close to your shield and hold down the main center select button. does a little blue led flash on the forward face? and does it connect?

Did you swap the batteries? Also make sure there's no debris on the batteries, there's a firmware update coming to address this bug.
