Returned my MiBox for an Nvidia Shield 2017

I highly recommend doing the same as I did, the MiBox is really subpar equipment. The MiBox constantly reset video settings, was randomly choppy and audio sometimes cut out and needed a reboot. Just got the new Shield today and everything is smooth and no bugs whatsoever. Xiamo's poor support killed it for me, their answer to all bugs is a factory reset.

I have never had a problem with or had to reset my MiBox.

Mi box for me has been almost perfect. I did have the occasional resolution change but I just rebooted and that has been much better. WiFi download speed had been much higher than the nexus player it replaced. In fact, watching HDHomerun has been so much better on the Mi finally giving me the courage to turn in my cable box on that TV.

I went through a solid hour of consideration the day the shield 2017 came out. After serious back and forths and even ordering the shield to later cancel, I realized they aren't really comparable products. I came from chromecast 1st gen and later to fire stick and only when that started getting buggy did I consider android tv. The mi box is a HUGE leap ahead of the fire stick and even the chromecast ultra and it's only $69 to boot. Looks great, optical out, decent remote. If your aim is just to watch hulu and netflix then the mi box is perfect for 90% of people. In contrast the $200 shield is better suited if you plan to run a plex server and is more future proof in terms of processing power. It has so much power actually you can basically use it like a game console - if you pay the extra $60 for the remote. Ok so now we're up to $260 for a fully fledged game console vs $69 for a media center that has 4k and HDR support. These aren't even a comparison. The Mi Box is still a great product if you put it in the price range of chromecast/roku/etc. Of course the shield is a better product.... Hey did you know the PS4 slim costs $267? Sounds pretty close to our shield tally. Oh cool, the xbox one is only $299. I wonder how that compares to the shield.

tl;dr These aren't similar products to draw a comparison from. Nvidia shield is competing with game consoles, Mi Box is competing with chromecast. For the price point the Mi Box is a great deal.

Sorry zero issues on my Mi Box. Your setup might be causing all your issues. I'd rather pay $70 for a video player than $200 for a video player. That extra $130 can go for something else I want where as for you, you have nothing else. lol.

Good luck though with your toy. Shield is good for gaming so if you don't game then you just wasted $130.

It depends on what you use it for and if you want to spend that type of money. For me, I prefer AAA games on a console and the cost of the shield was not worth it. For others it is.

I had have zero issues with the Mi Box, so that isn't an issue for me to want to pay $200+ for just watching TV.

I've been actually wanting to do this myself. I got a Mi Box two weeks ago and ever since hearing all about the Shield, I've really been wanting to switch...
