I just installed a new Mi box. I was having trouble casting videos from Google Home to the Mi box (which I named Kitchen TV). I would say "OK, Google. Play youtube video on Kitchen TV" and the reply would be something like "I can't find Kitchen TV at the moment. Make sure the device is turned on and connected to your network."
Here's actually what happened to me.
The Mi box was on and connected to the network. I could cast videos from the Google Home app on my phone but the Google Home appliance could not find it.
-
I checked if the Mi box had the updated Google Cast software installed (which it did - 1.21.XXX). I did a force stop on the Google Cast software. Deleted the data. Rebooted the device. Still didn't work.
-
I removed the Google Cast update (which deleted all the data). Sideloaded the Google Cast update, installed it, and rebooted. Still didn't work.
-
I realized the the Google Home appliance was connected to one Google account and the Mi box to another. I deleted the Google account on the Mi box, entered the same Google account as on the Google Home, rebooted the Mi box. Still didn't work.
-
Checked the devices on the Google Home app on my phone. Kitchen TV was there. Tried changing the settings. No luck.
-
After fiddling with the Google Home app on my phone, way at the bottom of the devices screen I saw something that said something like "Kitchen TV - Unlink device." I realized that the Google account I was using on my phone was not the same Google account that the Google Home appliance was signed on with. I clicked "Unlink device" and went to the Google Home app on another phone that was using the same Google account as the Google Home appliance and the Mi box. There was an option there to LINK this device to this account - which I did - and success! I could now tell the Google Home appliance to play a video on the Kitchen TV and it worked perfectly.
So the short answer is:
- Make sure the AndroidTV is using the same Google account as your Google Home.
- Make sure the Google Home app on your phone or tablet is using the same Google account as your Google Home and AndroidTV.
If not:
-
unlink the AndroidTV using Google Home app on your phone or tablet
-
link the AndroidTV using the Google Home app on a phone or tablet making sure that app is signed in with the same Google account as your Google Home and AndroidTV.
This was a frustrating experience that took over an hour to figure out. Not all casting issues are related to this - but hopefully it will help someone struggling with this headache.
im trying to add my mi box to google home, will the box be automatically detected by the google home app?
Also how did you change the name of the mibox to kitchen tv?
