Shield a bit laggy and stutters while watching some Live TV channels

by tsms21

I have a HDHomeRun Prime and I notice when I watch some of my local channels, that the video seems to lag and stutter and is very distracting when trying to watch anything that is the news. I'm looking to see if anyone has this issue? What might help fix this? Why does this seem to only happen on my Nvidia Shield? If I play the local channel on my computer, the video is fine.

Thanks

Are you hardwired or on wifi with the SHIELD? If hardwired connections - presuming the HDHR and PC are connected directly to the router - are fine, but wireless (i.e. SHIELD or a laptop) are problematic, then perhaps it's the router's throughput.

  1. 9/10 it's the router. Either go hardwired or upgrade your router.

I get great performance with HDHomerun Prime and the Mi box using Wifi (I would assume the Nvidia Shield would be even better).

Here are a few other things I have found that make a difference:

  • the router. I use a TP-Link Archer C7 which has amazing throughput and range which definitely has made a difference.

  • the position of the AndroidTV box (I was getting significant stuttering with HDHomerun Prime but then moved the AndroidTV box about two inches and slightly changed the angle of the box and now stuttering is completely gone. I believe the box was too close to the tv and I believe the tv casing and/or physical items inside the tv were blocking the signal. BTW - the wifi indicator on the home screen of the AndroidTV box really did not show a stronger signal with the improved performance)

  • other obstacles between your AndroidTV box and your router (I have a closet near my AndroidTV box and when the door is open, the signal starts to degrade)
