Gamestream makes games looks terrible... is there a fix?

by simplepickup3

I recently purchased a Shield TV, mainly so I can stream games on my 4k TV.

When I hook up my computer directly via HDMI, everything looks beautiful.

However, when using gamestream the colors are extremely washed out. The blacks are extremely crushed (visible gradients). In short, it looks like crap. I've played around with my TV settings and nothing seems to make it look better.

I have a Vizio p65 4k HDTV

Anyone know of a fix?

EDIT:

Here are pictures.

The colors are not uniform when using gamestream: https://screencast.com/t/MkQkZEUf

This is what it looks like when directly connected via HDMI, MUCH better: https://screencast.com/t/wBY9K5uwl66H

How is your network connection? If it is on the slower side the stream might get more compressed than usual.
Some quality will always be lost during streaming, but I wouldn't describe it as terrible. But my devices are both on a wired gigabit connection.

Are both ends of the network connection using a gigabit link? I once tried Gamestream with my computer on a megabit link and it looked exactly as you described.

Did you try upping the bitrate in the shield TV gamestream settings? Take it off auto and bump to 30 maybe

Have you adjusted your setting stream setting for your server on the Shield to goto Max res and frame rate?

Turn on the connection overlay to see what the network connection is like during a session.

Try disabling all of the Nvidia optimization.

Your photos pretty much show some pretty heavy compression. Try using Moonlight, since it gives you far more finer controls over bitrate and resolution. It may be possible to change it in the GameStream app but I don't remember how.
