Nvidia Shield Tv

by infinitesmoke

I see many people are getting the Nvidia Shield TV but mostly the regular one. I've pre-ordered the Pro. Anyone else waiting for Pro?

I already had a 2TB WD HDD so I went for the 16gb one

I'll take SSD with expandable storage over HDD with larger base storage.

I was thinking about it, just trying to think of what the extra hard drive space will be good for. I assume you can store media directly on it if you travel or move it around, but I guess that's about it?

When I got my 1st gen shield, I had a 3TB NAS on my router, which is 5ghz AC so it's fast enough to deliver. I had no reason to spend the extra $$$.

The main reasons to get a 2nd Gen Pro over a regular one are:

  • Plex Media Server: It cannot move meta data to a SD card or USB drive.
  • IR receiver.
  • Micro SD slot.
  • Remote with headpone jack (maybe? Articles say this but I'll believe it when mine arrives).

I hear the 1st gen HDD made some good noise, I doubt things are different now.

Ordered the PRO - Having IR is worth it for my complexish setup. Also heard that the 16gb and plex caching is wack
