Wouldn't it make more sense to actually take down the servers of such illegal content providers? same happens with Roku boxes, a lot of people are selling them with monthly plans like if they were official services when they are not.
Once the services stop working or at least keep going down enough to make it sufficiently inconvenient for it's users then people will stop using them.
Long on innuendo, short on facts. a case about a possible seller... how does that translate to impact on possible users? also kodi is cross platform. How do you stop its proliferation? Android TV boxes can be acquired legally and then modified after the fact. Yes the sale of modified boxes makes it easy for non-technical people to get in on the action with minimal effort and that is probably what any future battle would be about.
It's a short article but it seems like a rehash of the several articles released when the police arrested a distributer of Kodi boxes called Brian Thomson . The guy had his own shop and FB page selling these things (both under his own name) and is likely to lose his court battle.
This will likely set a precedent for a crackdown on the distribution of these boxes but shouldn't affect anyone using an existing one.
