Confirmed Ethernet Adapter doesn't work on Mibox

by toot_217

Hey guys,

Couple of weeks ago I got my Mibox (MDZ-16-AB) and I've to say its a nice piece of hardware, almost everything works like I expected.

Now I wanted to attach a USB - Ethernet adapter to my box, because my WiFi isn't the best one (crappy provider restricted Router) and bought a first device from Anker, (similar to this one: https://www.anker.com/products/A7522012 (actual article-no: AK-848061018783)

But no big surpise, it was incompatible and went back to amazon.

Also it didn't work with my LG G3 nor Nexus 10 (both running Android 6).

After that I started to do some research and I came up with the info, that a adapter with a specific chipset, to be exact the Asix AX88772, should be the best choice.

So i ordered an adapter from the (for me unknown at the moment) company ugreen: https://www.amazon.com/Ugreen-Network-Adapter-Windows-B00LLUEJF0/dp/B00LLUEJF0

Interesting, it worked on my Nexus 10, but not on my other two devices. It seemed that the adapter hasn't got any power connected to my Mibox, the status LEDs for the Ethernet connection stayed dark, not even the USB hub worked. Weird behavior, but I spend no second thought on this and shipped the device back to Amazon.

So, i was still looking for a working adapter and i got slightly frustrated, how can it be so difficult?

I went to amazon.com (actually I'm from Germany, but there are hardly an useful reviews regarding the compatibility with a Mibox) and started searching.

There was a box, also from.ugreen which had many different, but reliable appearing reviews, many mentioning the Mibox: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-1000Mbps-Gigabit-Ethernet-Compatible/dp/B00LLUEJFU

This time I was sure, this is gonna be a adapter, which will work as I imagined, so I orderered it and held it two days later in my hands.

But when I attach t to the Mibox and the Ethernet cable, theres again no light on the status LEDs, and USB hub isn't working too.

I don't know what else I could try, this last adapter is working with my PC (Windows 10) but none of my android devices is compatible with the Ethernet adapter..

It works perfectly to me. I have This ugreen usbhub ethernet and Mibox4k.

Maybe use it with a externally powered USB hub in between? That way the xiaomi does not need to deliver the power

I bought this one a few years ago for a Chromebook and can confirm it does work well with the MiBox

Kind of a bad submission title. Makes it sound like you are confirming that using an ethernet adapter with the Mi Box is not possible.

I remember sometime ago people here were posting some adapters that did work. Didn't get a chance to try any of them out, but you just reminded me that I need to get one. Hopefully we can find something that works!

I ordered this adapter from amazon and it works just fine.

Does your USB port work for other things? Once I went through a fiasco like you to get something to work buying different things and turned out my USB port was bad.

Ugreen adapter works for me.

My USB adapter works but after a couple of hours of not using my Mi Box, it no longer recognizes the USB adapter and Ethernet. It'll revert back to wifi. I have to restart my mi Box in order for it to recognize my adapter again.

This happening to anyone else?

Ok, stupid question. How do you know that a USB ethernet adapter is working? Do you have to turn the WiFi off? I've got one that works on Nexus 7, OnePlus One and Shield K1, I know is working on these because I get an icon in the notification bar. When I plug it into the Mi Box I get nothing, no notifications and I lose network if I switch off WiFi. The built in USB hub seems to be working correctly. So am I right in assuming it just doesn't work with the Mi Box and there's nothing I can do about this?

TP Link UE-300 is confirmed working by myself and others.

However, USB Ethernet on the Mi Box appears to be slower than a decent 802.11AC connection, which I have confirmed myself as well.

The Ugreen gigabit Ethernet/USB3 from Aliexpress adapter is working fine for me. I had another cheap Asix based which worked too.

Here's the link .

I get gigabit connection. Power supply to hub not required. I can even connect a USB3 driver to it.

Edit: added link & more details.

I'm using an asix 88179 usb3 to gigabit, found it on Ali somehow. After the mibox 699 update it would pull around 25-30MB/s in es. 750 update it also seems fine, haven't checked speeds. Also the adapters for the Wii work (88772A?) for 6MB/s but might as well wifi AC at that point.
