Pro tip for logging into the Amazon app if you have a long password/don't want to type:
Skip the initial login. Then go into settings and choose to log in device or something like that. This will give you a code that you can use in a browser on a computer/your phone. Much easier login.
After you update make sure to update the firmware on your remote and controller too.

I'm getting the dead android when updating. I'm not even rooted or anything.
Nothing is helping. I tried freeing disk space and deleting a bunch of apps. I may have to factory reset

Installed it this morning.
Confirmed, launcher is now more vanilla. NVidia hub row is gone, and netflix is just another app in the app row.
NVidia hub is now a single app (so it seems), appears in a row below apps.
Haven't tried external SD card access for plex/etc yet.
Still no HDR in Youtube. My Samsung TV would popup saying "An HDR Video is playing" but it's not happening here. Netflix does work properly.

Edit: Coincidentally, Google uses the exact same scene as a reference . Apparently, YouTube HDR is only available on Chromecast Ultra and Samsung UHDs so far.
Edit2: To support YouTube HDR a TV needs to feature hardware support for VP9 Profile 2. Looks like Shield doesn't support it (nor will it). MiBox apparently does...

Has anyone had success writing to removable USB storage? Opening the attached USB drive in a file manager still appears to be read only and I cannot add files locally or over the network. What am I missing here?
1st Generation Shield Pro but I'm having the 5.0.2 version when all other posts are saying the 1st Gens are getting only the 5.0. And I don't think I'm the only one. What possibly could be the reason for the discrepancy re: versions.

The SHIELD Hub row disappeared. What happened to it?
To simplify the SHIELD TV home screen and to maintain consistency between SHIELD TV (2015) and the new SHIELD TV, the SHIELD Hub row has been removed. Now, all the apps are on the apps row and the games are on the games row. The SHIELD Games, GeForce NOW, and GameStream apps have been unified into a single experience called NVIDIA Games which can be found on the Games row. Netflix has been moved to the apps row.
Note: SHIELD TV (2015) owners will get updated to the NVIDIA Games app on a rolling basis over a period of weeks starting January 26th, 2017. After this update, the SHIELD Hub row will be removed. Until this app update, the SHIELD Hub row will still be present. Those who don’t want to wait for the app update, you can choose to join the NVIDIA Games beta community to gain access to the app
ah man... i upgraded my nvidia shield tv tonight when prompted and it was a big mistake... all i get now is severe lag and a crap tonne of leanback launcher failures.. system app also failing to respond.

since the update my shield freeze all the time. my controller is down and i need a mouse but i can't do anything becaus she freeze Sometimes immediately or after a few seconds... with a keyboard I managed to reset but it is always the same: on the installation screen I have the choice of the language I have no time to select that the shield is already freeze.

Don't see any Amazon Video in Canada yet. It has been available for phone/tablet since December.
Excited about this - hopefully it solves the random picture freezing I get in Sling TV.
I use Fire Stick remotes with Sideclicks with my Shields, but I wish somebody would make a remote that is compact and has a programmable IR function to control my TV and sound system. I just want one remote. The Sideclicks work fine but the Nvidia remote is so much nicer.
Does this include more direct support for steam streaming? I swear I read about that being a feature back when this was announced but it's been lost to the internet.
i see a little note to the very right of the screen but i can't figure out how to select it, went away when i restarted the shieldtv. anyone know what that was? edit: it's back and i can't get it to go away, it's even there playing a movie in kodi.

So I started the upgrade. Downloaded, rebooted said it was updating and when it finished it was back to the old version. And no more Ethernet connection.
Connected to wifi and upgrading now.(started downloading the update again) But I'm worried about I'm worried about the missing Ethernet connection.
Is always on microphone for the new controller not enabled yet? Does it come with the Google assistant update?
