Trying to just use 1 remote for tv and Mi Box. I have no issues turning on the tv and mi box with the circle button but i can't turn off the tv after pressing the power button. Is this an issue for others?

No. The Mi Box doesn't have hdmi-cec. Get a harmony 650 universal. It can control the Mi box through IR and for TV through IR.
does your tv have a feature to shut it off if there is no input? that's my workaround for it. if no input (mibox off) after 5 minutes, it shuts off.
