What kinds of files are you trying to access? I use ES File Explorer for misc stuff (and you can transfer onto your drive using it) and the free version of Archos Video Player for accessing video files.
I access my audio and video files on my NAS through Kodi, and use an older version of ES file explorer to copy data from and to my NAS. (I use an older version without the ads and bloatware, can't remember where I found it)
As far is I know, it's not possible to map a network drive within Android TV without the use of extra software.
