I recently received the International version of Mi Box android TV and started playing with it. Automatic setup with my android phone didn't work so I set up the device manually and connected it to my home 5Ghz wifi network. Device is connected just fine and I could download updates, apps, watch youtube etc. So what is the problem? I later installed the official android tv remote control app from play store and I noticed that my device was not detected by the app. I also noticed that Mi Box was not detected by Google Home App, so I couldn't use it as a chromecast device. As soon as I connected Mi Box to a 2.4Ghz wifi network problem solved. I could remote remote control device with android tv app and I also could cast everything from my phone to Mi Box. I tried different configurations with dhcp and static ip but 5Ghz problem is still there. It doesn't matter if phone is connected to 5 or 2.4Ghz wifi network, both networks are in the same ip range. Someone on Google support forum told me that he has no issues, so Ι suppose it's not a device software issue. Anyone with the same experience or any ideas what is the problem with 5Ghz wifi. I can live with the 2.4Ghz connection but I prefer to connect my device to 5Ghz .
Thanks
It wasn't working for me until I changed my router's security mode from wp2 to wep, then I was able to do the pairing, and after that, I activated back the wp2 mode in my router. Some other places suggest to turn off WWM from your router.
