Isn't the Mi Box a better and newer option for about the same price?
Is there a way to just buy the game pad?
Edit: there is and it's on sale for 25 bucks. The shipping is ridiculously expensive though.

you can get the mibox+gamepad for little more, no point to buy this. mibox with android TV can be found at 57-60€ and xiaomi gamepad at 15-16€, both with worldwide free shipping on aliexpress.
I got a 2nd hand shield from eBay. Super happy with it. Gabe my Nexus player to my mum. I still have the gamepad, but it lacks the start and select buttons making it limited in its use.
So tempting for my TV downstairs. But I really have my eye on the Shield.
