Sony 940D and AndroidTV "features"

by Cinderbike

Just picked this TV up for the Superbowl, is there an easy way to turn off all the AndroidTV fluff? Auto updates, standby mode (I want the tv to turn fully off when I hit the power button), hide all apps except settings etc?

I bought it for the picture quality but have no interest in smart TV features.

You can turn off the updates, but that's it. But turning off updates is nothing I would do with hardware, that's connected to the internet.

Out of curiosity: if you are not interested in the Smart TV features, why turn these things off? You will never see them, unless you use them.

DO NOT turn off updates. They include security fixes that are critical.

lol wtf

Security fixes for a TV is a weird thing. Could I just not connect it to the internet?

I just owned a 930D and returned it due to the laggy Android TV interface as well as some serious clouding (lost the panel lotto)

But in order to reduce the bloat (direct TV offer, Vudu, etc) you need to go into the app section in settings and force close "Sony shelf" and I think there was one other Sony app to force close. I believe I was Sony Select.
