Android TV and PS Vue

by PsionStorm

I'm a recent cord cutter and I'm looking to consolidate everything down to one box, rather than flip between a Playstation and an Xbox. We're going to go with Playstation Vue for our main TV service, and supplement with Plex, Kodi, etc.

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a Mi Box, with the intent of getting a Shield when my finances are a bit better. I read a few reviews of Playstation Vue on the Google App store, and it seems that it runs poorly on Android TV, but it also seems to be for an older version of the program.

I was wondering if anyone here had any more recent impressions of the program, and if the Mi Box works well for Vue, or if I should head in the direction of a Fire stick.

Thanks in advance!

I've used both Sling and PS Vue on my Mibox and Shield. To be honest, PS Vue wipes the floor with Sling.

The app can be a little slower at times on the Mibox but the picture quality is great and I've never had any real issues at all.

I'm a very happy camper with PS Vue!

Vue is much nicer than Sling.

Sling is much less intuitive and feels like it was designed in 2004.

Vue, whilst a little slow navigating, is a much nicer experience. Plus you can DVR and favourite any show you like. Sling you can only favourite shows that are available on demand. Which kinda sucks.

I've used PS Vue on my Mibox as recently as December, and I didn't have any real problems with the service.

You will notice that the app itself runs a bit slow, especially when it comes to changing channels and bringing up the guide; but nothing that would be a real dealbeaker.

I would suggest that you try the 1 week trial and see how you like it.

The other alternative would be Sling, which would be the cheaper, less feature rich alternative.

I really like Vue (though concerned about them stalling). I use the Mi Box with zero issues.

With their interface, as you seen in you trial, has a lot of crap to load/scroll through and the guide appears to download as it goes, so there is some lag until Sony optimizes the UI a bit.

I've been using Vue on Roku devices, both the 4 and streaming stick (3600R), since June 2016. A couple days ago I purchased a MiBox and I have to say I couldn't be happier. Yes, the interface may have a little lag when navigating, but it's leaps and bounds better than the Roku interface (even though the Roku doesn't appear to have any navigational lag).

I watch sports and the ones I've seen using Vue on the MiBox appear to be at 60Hz (going by the scrolling ticker). I mainly use Vue, Plex, and Netflix and they all work flawlessly. The only issue I had was after initial setup the MiBox would only output 4K2K-smtpe, but after a device reset and re-setup it was at 4K2K-60Hz (on a Vizio M60-C3).

Also...the MiBox appears to properly support HDMI-CEC, so for the most part I can just use my TV remote (as opposed to two remotes), however I lose the "home" button. The only service I'm missing on the MiBox is Amazon Video, however my TV has an app for that so I can get by for now.

I would recommending disabling the XiamioLeanbackCustomizer app so that you get a somewhat more "pure" AndroidTV experience.
