Is there a way to put custom wallpaper on home launcher Leanback launcher
I really have no idea why it isn't an option, especially with Nvidia trying to put the ugliest possible wallpaper on the Shield.
I would also like to see more Collums and rows added

Unfortunately no. Until the manufacturers make Google's own OS worthy enough for Google's support, Google won't do too much for it.
Good news is that Nvidia is pushing it amazingly and Xiaomi new US Mi Box is successful here in the US. That should bring more manufacturers in for a piece of the pie and enlarge the user pool, which in turn brings in more apps. That should convince Google to see it worthwhile enough to invest more.
Personally, I'm hoping to see background customization, option to have limited columns rather than the infinite columns of icons, and a functioning Playstore that shows ALL Android TV apps.
