New Android Box User

by forfun32

I just purchased my first Android box. It is M8S Pro with Android 6.0. When I watch videos on Kodi, they are very dark. Does anybody know how to fix this? The brightness sometimes seems to go up and down (brighter, darker) but generally it's darker than what you would expect and dark scenes are borderline unwatchable.

I am watching on an LG smart TV.

I've watched Apple TV on my TV with no issues. Same with plugging in laptops or anything else.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Return it and get an actual Android TV box. Those cheap crap no-name Android boxes are... well, cheap crap.

The Razer Forge is good if you're OK with hacking it a bit. The Nvidia Shield is good if you're OK with paying a bit more. The Xiaomi MiBox is an OK budget option, but I've heard some people have problems with it.

This subreddit is for devices running the Android TV operating system. Your device is just a box running a hacked together build of Android.

Just gonna breeze past the whole "It's a Chinese box running android not an Android TV" bit. Sounds like the chroma profile you're using is a little off. If it's bad across the whole interface (not just Kodi) then try tweaking your TV settings (I don't think stock android has colour space options).

If it's just Kodi then you can use the video calibration section to tweak the contrast & brightness till you're happy. You can also set these values as default for all media.

It'd be worth installing VLC to see if the movie looks okay on that.
