Mibox or Nexus Player

by tone_capone

Hey All!

I am an owner of both the Shield and Mibox, and want another Android TV device for the 3rd tv in my house.

I have not had any prolonged issues with the Mibox, and am overall very happy with my purchase, but noticed that the Nexus Player is on sale for $59.99 on Asus' website.

I want to use my Harmony remote to control the system, so the fact that the Mibox has IR is a big plus for it, but I'm wondering if the Nexus Player would be a better fit since CEC can be a solution as well.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I have several Nexus Players and bought a Mi box just to try it out. Mi box performance is significantly better.

I have since bought another and although I truly enjoyed the NP, the Mi is better enough that I plan in replacing all the NPs with Mi boxes.

Mi seems to have better WiFi performance and better processing power. It does everything I've asked of it.

I never had a nVidia Shield, and from what I've read, it's the best... But between the budget boxes, Mi is great.

you know that the MiBox suits your needs. Iwouldn't take the risk of buying the Nexus Player and regrettin it later.

Honestly if I was looking to get a budget device I'd get a Roku. Premiere Plus. I've heard the MiBox has trouble with playing 4k content. Though it should be fine with 1080p. It's probably the better choice over the Nexus Player. The Nexus is just too old, who knows how much longer it will be kept up to date?

I have both. Mi box has better specs but Nexus have Android 7.0. That is the edge I give to Nexus right now. If Mi Box ever updates to Nougat then the NP is useless.

But I would get the nvidia shield over anything else. It is a complete device with few compromises. It's worth the extra $100z

Shield TV. Netflix is a hit or miss on both devices. You also seem to have more technical requirements than the average person buying those devices.
