Download directly to Nvidia Shield TV as NAS

by Elasion

Hi, Is there anyway to torrent directly into my external HDD that is connected to my Nvidia Shield TV? I'm sick of having to unplug my External HDD to put anything onto it and I recently noticed that it appears as a shared NAS drive in my finder (I'm on macOS).

When I try redirecting the download path directly to a folder (I have 1 folder where the .rar folders go and then I extract, transfer the .mkv or whatever to my main folder for Plex) on my external drive, it starts working but then completely stalls and I get a notification that an "I/O error occurred" (qbittorrent).

Anyknow know how to properly do this? I'm also using ethernet vis powerline (both shield and my computer are plugged in through these), do I have to switch my shield over to wifi or something?

Thanks

EDIT: I also have a VPN on...could that be affecting anything?

Go to the settings on the shield, then storage settings. Under shield storage access turn on "over local network" if its not already on.

Vpn shouldn't cause an issue, most vpns bypass the vpn for local IP addresses

Apps pretty much can't write to disks that are set as external storage. It is an Android security settings and it stinks.

As far as I understand apps can only write very specific folders, their "Android/data/[app name] ,and maybe the "Nvidia_Shield" folder.

Same goes for networking into the Shield, external storage is pretty much read only.

I'm a little late, but the way I have my system set up is the torrent downloads to my computer first, and then auto-transfers to a folder on my NAS. I could also download directly to the NAS, but I don't do this in case the network goes down since I'm also on powerline. You could map the Shield storage as a drive on your computer, and point your torrent software to that.
