Probably the MiBox. You can get them in the $150 range. The Shield is your only other option. It's good, but you'll be paying $300.
If you are looking for quality, it's the NVIDIA Shield TV. There isn't anything else.
I like the nexus player - I have two! Sadly it looks like they aren't on the shelves anymore.
Anyone know how I can get showbox on the shield?
I have a Shield TV. Allows me to use Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Youtube (All of these in 4K) and I also use Kodi to stream from my NAS. I have a separate Fire TV for my US TV, HBO, Hulu and US Netflix.

I picked up the Minix Neo U1 and have been very pleased with it over the past few months. It displays 4K beautifully and even does HDR if your TV supports it. Best is the shield. Constant updates and features, supports all official playback methods (google video, amazon video, Netflix, etc) Chromecast works perfect. Find a used or new gen1 if you can, they are the same as a v2 pro (minus HDD).
The mi box is great on paper but has bugs and requires a good AC router and isn't officially available in Canada so no real return policy or warranty. If you go that route consider also the fire TV line. I've found fire TV boxes way more stable and feature-working than mi box to be honest, and the new box update interface is very similar to Android TV. Downside is no Chromecast or Google play. To be fair the mi box Chromecast is so flaky I also have an actual Chromecast on the same set so I can cast more than YouTube.
But I would narrow your search to those three and read up on their abilities and pitfalls for your planned usage. If you want something that isn't coming from the USA via eBay, your only choice really is the Nvidia shield.
