MakeMKV distortion issue

by SpoonFed276

I posted this in r/cordcutters but that subreddit is just filled with a bunch of people posting about verizon and Netflix and I know you guys are very active and knowledgeable so I'll ask here:

So I recently bought a Blu-ray drive for my pc because I want to rip my movies to stream from my Plex server to my Shield TV. I've been using MakeMKV for the rips. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E7B08MS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the Blu-ray drive I purchased and while it reads the movies just fine, every time I rip certain movies I get distortion like flashing glitch colors every now and then at the same time no matter how many time I re-rip them. I make sure that the bottom of the discs are spotless and I keep very good care of them but I just can't stomach that distortion in the playback and ruins the experience for me. I'm wondering if its a possibility that my drive could be reading the discs too slow and I need a faster one or if there is an interference with software. I'm literally out of ideas and any info could be really helpful!!!

I have never seen that. Do you see it on more than playback device? Tv with your Shield and maybe a PC? It may be the device you are playing it on...?

MakeMKV for me will just plain not rip the disc if there are read errors. It will state some error messages in the window and just keep trying to read. If your rip is completing, in my experience it is good.

I don't think reading the disc too slow would be the issue, not to mention that is a rather speedy drive. If anything I would expect the opposite: reading too fast causing an error, but that would generally causes errors that would stop the rip in the first place.

What exactly did you mean by "every now and then at the same time?"
