This sub is for Android TV which only comes on existing products. You can't build one.
You are probably wanting a Home Theater PC. A small PC made to run/stream media. You can find this over at https://www.reddit.com/r/htpc/
2 or 3 models of boxes is not what i call "overwhelmed" :D
If its true android TV you want to roll your own solution and not an set top box which runs android(mobile/tablet version) on it you only have 1 choice at the moment.

If you want a cheap android box then this isn't the correct sub.
Too many choices is something I never thought I would hear in the android TV subreddit.
Just buy a shield. If cost is an issue buy a mi box.
