New to This: Running Two Shields

by PhiGam25

Hey all. I'm new to Cordcutting. Finally done with DTV and the like. I was interested in the Nvidia Shield Pro for the Living Room and was going to setup Plex on it for Recording/Storage Purposes. My wife is concerned about being to watch that stored media in the bedroom. If I bought a regular Shield for the Bedroom and the Pro in the living room, they can share the media, correct?

Plex requires a server to run. Fortunately, a Shield can be a Plex server and still be used for other things. If you set up the Shield Pro to be your Plex server, the second Shield (or anything else that runs the Plex client) can access the Plex server and watch anything in your Plex database.

I have a Shield with Plex server running in my living room (with media stored on a NAS) and a Fire TV with Plex in my bedroom and this setup works pretty well for my purposes.

Not 100% sure, but I remember reading a while ago that kodi offers a dlna server.

If that is the case you could load your media on your pro and have it serve the other shield.

If you setup the pro as a plex server then any plex client including another shield tv can access it

So yesterday went and bought the Regular Shield with a 128GB thumb to assist with the Metadata going forward. I'm still going to need to look into a 3 or 4 TB NAS to setup on my router.

I do have concerns with the power going out (or if my network connection drops midday like usual) having to remount the NAS to the Shield. If I'm away on business my wife is going to have ZERO clue on how to do such a thing.

Should I look into a larger portable hard drive and set it up to the Shield to avoid that situation or NAS to router to whole house (which serves as a greater solution to a lot of things)? NAS can't be completely maintained from the Sheild I assume.
