Android TV seems like the opposite of Android - Any way to improve on this?

It is still Android so you can sideload a different launcher (such as Nova) but they most likely won't work with a remote/controller (you'd have to use a mouse+keyboard). There are a couple launchers meant for Android TV that are a little customizable but nothing compared to the customizability of normal Android launchers.

I love Android TV but I do wish it was more customizable (at least let me change the wallpaper!).

You can do a lot of those things with apps already and I doubt the want for those features on a home screen is so great that they would use valuable resources on it.

Im on Twitter on my phone all the time but have not once thought I need a live feed on my TV when I'm trying to watch Netflix or something.

What would be the need for a live webcam on the home screen when the home screen is designed to get you watching whatever you want/need quickly?

You could always go spend 4 or 5 times as much on a htpc and get what you want

I want customization, or at least 3rd party default launchers (block them for TV manufacturers since they need custom UI for TV features).

The main thing that bugs me about the UI is the long and infinite 2 rows. I want the columns to fit the screen and the rows to be scrolled going down.

Also having an official Google Drive for AndroidTV would be nice (not sideloaded) and for Google to get apps like Amazon, who uses Android on the backend, seems to be able to get.

Yes changing the background would be sweet. Would instantly put up a picture of my kids instead of that standard background.

Give me the design choices and menu structure choices as elegant and useful as ones on a Kodi build and I would be happy. Simple, done and done.

I'm ok with it but I would be more OK if the YouTube recommendations on the home screen matched my personal recommendations, and a custom background would be nice.

This isn't the first time I've said this, but man, I wish I knew how to make Android apps so I could make a new launcher for Android TV.
