Hide certain apps on Android TV

by DorsetRed

I've got a Sony 49x8305c TV and just updated to Android TV 6. I know you can hide the whole row of featured apps, but if I do that then certain ones like Amazon TV and iPlayer disappear which I want to keep.

Is there a way of just hiding certain apps from the featured apps row? And also some of the stock apps from the apps row that I don't use?

You can disable some by going into settings > apps, finding the app then disabling it.

But in general no, my screen is still full of crap and the worst thing is on the new recommended bar I can't move them. So Spotify which I use all the time, I have to scroll like 6 apps to the right to get to

In the past, you were able to hide / disable apps via ADB with the "adb shell pm hide [package name]" command - which might have improved your RAM as well :). Unfortunately, since the November 2016 update, you are unable to do this anymore (probably a security patch - this was applied to all devices, including handhelds). Note: You still can't do it on MM.

This only applies to unrooted devices. I don't know how to root the SONY TV though :P.
