Xiaomi MiBox: Best way to test for the 4K issue?

by Frankly_George

I bought a MiBox intended for relatives, the intention is to use it mostly for streaming and Kodi with an eye towards the future if they upgrade the TV like they've been talking about. Kodi seems to be working fine but I'm having YouTube stop some streams labeled 4K abruptly. Others run fine. Since I don't have a 4K TV myself or 4K on my Netflix account (which seems fine) how can I best test for the flaws in video playback?

I want to be able to return it quickly and exchange for another if need be so time is of the essence here. Thanks!

We would have to confirm with someone who has a box that works for sure. My mi box has the issue and I haven't gotten around to returning it yet. However, when I downloaded "DRM Info" from the app store, it shows my HDCP as only 1.x when it should show 2.2

When I plug my fireTV into the exact same HDMI cable and input on my TV, the same app shows HDCP 2.2

So I'm beginning to think that the mi boxes that have this issue would all report HDCP 1.x instead of 2.2

Have you checked the software updates and set the resolution in the settings to what's appropriately for your usage.

If you don't have a 4k TV there really isn't going to be a way to properly test 4k playback via the Mi Box. The Mi Box and your Tv report the HDCP levels that they support to one another, and try to settle on the highest available for both. If you only have a 1080p TV then the Mi Box via the DRM info app (download via play store) should report HDCP 1.X as max and current. If you get a 4k TV, and set the Mi Box resolution to 4k2k, then you should see HDCP 2.2 (but there are issues reported with this).

I am experiencing micro stutterings while playing videos of any kind on my Mibox. Anyone knows how to fix it?

On Mi Box, you’re on your own to find 4K content across apps that support it, like Netflix, YouTube, Vudu, UltraFlix and Sony’s Ultra streaming service. Roku’s software, on the other hand, highlights where to find and watch 4K video.
