Looks like asus just stopped selling the nexus players, got the player and controller bundle for a week ago. No regrets.

These things are awesome for the ~1080p crowd. 720P hevc seems to play no problems for me, 1080p can be hit and miss but mostly miss. Nougat update is nice too, and there are built in DVR features if you wanna get a microUSB to USB hub and throw 50GB+ of space and a USB tuner on it.
