Sony Bravia + Vizio soundbar - random, ear-splitting buzzing noise even when TV & bar are powered off.

by FinnTheFickle

Hi all,

I just recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR-43X800D TV. Best TV I've ever owned in my life, but I've got one problem - I've been pairing it with an old Vizio soundbar (NB3530A, if it makes a difference.)

If I leave the TV and soundbar both plugged and just let them hibernate, at random points throughout the day the soundbar will let out an awful, loud buzzing noise. I'm talking so loud it will make your ears ring if you're in the same room with it.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason - it can go for days without doing it, or it can do it as soon as I turn the screen off after watching TV. Powering off the soundbar doesn't stop it, the only way is to unplug it.

I've looked online and found nothing useful. I already dropped a shitload of money on this TV, really not looking to buy a new soundbar when my current one sounds just fine (when it's not making my ears bleed.)

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Edit: In case it's useful info, I'm connecting it via optical cable.

Are you running power by the sound cable or bar? You could be getting electrical interference.

Oh MAN I've got a Bravia as well, just bought a Vizio soundbar... I was in the shower and my wife was watching TV then suddenly the same earsplitting buzz noise you mentioned out of no where. Anyone figured this out yet?
