Xfinity app updated anyone try it on android TV yet?

by jschipmann

Comcast just updated their Xfinity app (2/28) to the new Xfinity stream app. At work so cant easily check to see if it side loads and works or not but figured I'd pass it along to see if anyone has tried yet. I know the old app wouldn't work past a certain version and if you were running Android 7 none of them would work.

Not sure about sideloading, but I can confirm the screencasting detection is still in effect if you try to cast from an Android phone.

They have the nerve to make the headline description for the app read "Only XFINITY gives you more to stream to any screen ."

Fucking liars. They also disallow their login credentials for every TV app that I'm aware of on Android TV.

Nope, doesn't work. Immediately closes upon launch on my Shield TV.

Sideloaded it onto my Sony TV and it crashed on opening.

The last universally working version of the tv app was v3.2.1.028, it worked on many Android boxes. With this new app the old tv app will be retired. There is NO new features or better experience that they implemented but rather an execution of most Android media boxes that the cable cutters have substituted for their fee driven crappy cable boxes.

They are however, lunching this new app to be friendly with their new paid streaming only service for subscribers with only internet service. Right they have chosen the Roku as their target for allowing customers to stream and not pay cable box fees. The only other box would be the Apple TV 4 which I haven't tested yet???

So started testing this new app on all my leftover android sticks and boxes and what do you know, it actually opens and runs on the cx919. It will required xposed receiverstop to avoid the the app from detecting the hdmi out. It pisses me off that my main box (Neo Z64) will only run version 3.2.1.028 and crashes with anything higher. In comparison, the Directv app runs in pretty much any device but lacks video quality and it buffers way too much.

For those of you testing the beta version on roku, don't think that you have dodged their rental fees since they are waiving it during beta testing. Once they release the full working version, you will have to pay for using their app on your roku...
