Searching for an Android TV with AV Output that supports Netflix, Amazon and Crunchyroll

by shawly

I've found countless China boxes on Amazon.de and Ebay.de which have an AV output, but on many Amazon reviews I saw people complaining about these boxes and that the manufacturer fakes many of the good reviews..

Can anyone recommend me one that actually supports all the apps I mentioned and has an AV output so I can use it with my old CRT TV?

I currently have used my Wii for this purpose but only the Netflix app is really usable and the WiiMC app can't playback all my local media, so I wanted to use Kodi on the Android tv for local media, but that shouldn't be a problem with most of the Android TVs.

I'd rather use my RaspberryPi for this, but since it doesn't support Netflix it's not an option..

Neither of the currently sold AndroidTV boxes (Nvidia Shield TV, Xaomi Mi Box) support composite or component audio out.

BTW: Those "China boxes" do not run AndroidTV. They run a version of Android intended for phones or tablets and none of them support Netflix at greater than 480p. That may not be an issue depending on your CRT though.

Might be time to get a new TV? Old HD plasmas with hdmi can be picked up for cheap if you're willing to collect. Check out Craigslist/eBay etc.

Can't say how well they do or don't work as I have never used them but they do sell HDMI to Composite video converters. They are under $20 and plastered all over amazon so check there and read reviews.

You will have better luck buying a new TV.

After reading everything for you to get the desired outcome, you need to compromise a bit. Get a Roku 1 and one of those output splitters so you can switch between that and your Rasberri Pi. The Roku 1 will handle Netflix, Crunchyroll, and YouTube (or whatever the third app was) and your Rasberri Pi will handle Kodi. Just switch between the two whenever necessary. Hope this helps.

Buy an HDMI converter box and stop limiting your options to something with an obsolete connector.

It's a crazy world, there are also no Android TV boxes built with the intention of using Netflix on one of those lovely green Apple II monitors either. It's like they're working to expand a niche market instead of shrink it to the point where almost no one has any interest in or use for it other than a few retro hipsters who liked 240i before it was cool.
