MLB.TV Poor Video Stream Quality

by Chris22044

Spring Training games stutter on my Nexus Player. Frames are dropped, resulting in uneven, stuttering playback. I have tried to get help at the MLB.TV support forum, but the Mods will not acknowledge that there is a problem. Has anyone else watch Spring Training games on an Android TV device this year? How is the quality of the stream?

I don't have a Nexus Player (2015 and 2017 Shield TV), but I will try the stream for you today and report back (WPIX-HD @ 1:10PM ET).

Quality on my Sony Android TV has been great so far this year. However, last year I would get a warning it could not stream in HD WHILE it was streaming in HD. I spoke with MLB.TV support and they would never acknowledge the issue even though my tablet, phone, Roku and browser all worked fine. They just blamed my TV and Internet (Google Fiber) even though it worked fine prior to an update to the app. In the end, I gave up and just use my Roku.

Anyone tried using a VPN service to get around local blackouts with the Android TV version of mlb.tv? I figure since they can't force GPS location on like they do with phones, estimating your location based upon your IP would be their only option.

I was getting the same results on my Shield TV. Also getting the pop-up saying playback sucks try again later even when the stream is working. The latest problem I have is when I click on a game it tells me I have to have an active subscription and won't list at all. But my subscription works on my phone.
