Can i connect other smart led light strips to an Philips Ambilight TV?

by skyb0y24

Hello guys,

Currently I'm having a 40PFH6510/88 with Ambilight and I want to purchase a WIFI light strip from internet and connect it to the TV in order to further enhance my ambilight experience.

Can i use any light strip that has a wifi controller or should I buy a led band made by Philips?

Currently I've found a good price for a Original Xiaomi Yeelight Smart LED Light Strip WiFi and I want to know if is working or not.

Also are bluetooth led strips supported?

Thanks

Not sure you're in the right subreddit.

Unless you are talking about trying to control a smart device through Google Assistant on a Shield TV (which is not available yet). You need to find a light strip and/or hub compatible with Google Assistant: SmartThings, Philips Hue, WeMo

How do light strips relate to Android TV?

There are products (you can also build your own with a Raspberry Pie) that work as the Philips ambilight. They're using a HDMI splitter. Not sure if this will work for sources that come from your TV :) (like broadcast or storage attached media).. but will work for other devices like a Blu-ray player, HTPC, gaming console, etc.

Ambilight is a technology specific to Philips (although other clones exist) so unless you want some extravagant workaround it'd be much easier to use their solution. It is entirely possible to extend your ambilight setup using Philips "Hue" lights.

Your TV and Hue lights need to be on the same network and may need a Hue Hub/Bridge but other than that the process is quick and easy.

You have to use Hue lights if you want any hope of controlling them along with the TV, and your TV has to support Ambilight Sync.

Spoiler alert: Ambilight Sync is broken, and has never worked reliably (par for the course with POS Philips TVs).

There is also an open-source project you can build that polls the TV's LED controllers and syncs Hue lights to it. Dunno if it works or not but I can't imagine it's going to be fast enough to keep up with what's happening on screen.

Hello guys,

Thanks for your comments. First of all I've posted here because the TV that I have is an Android TV and I thought that there are here some users that have extended their ambilight. Sorry if my post is in the wrong section.

Yes the model that I have it has Ambilight built in, however I want to extend the ambilight functionality. I looked on internet and saw the Philips Hue Led Strips, however the these led strips aren't cheap.

I though that there are other alternatives to extent the Ambilight functionality (that the TV currently has), by simply connecting to the TV a WIFI led strip and the TV will take care of the rest.
