Trying to Update a Sony Bravia 4K Android TV (KD-49X8300C) to 6.0

by jandetlefsen

I got a message on my home screen linking me to this website . None of the described feature are on my TV and the TV can't find and a software update through the help menu either. So decided to try the manual update and following those steps i end up here , in the download tab there are 3 files files available, two 'PKG3.707...' version which seem to include Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But those are for Taiwan and Hong Kong and the screenshots show Chinese. For Asia Pacific there is only the version i already have.

So i wonder whats the difference between those versions? If it was language agnostic then i wonder why are there different versions for HK and TW. Has anyone successfully updated the TV to 6.0? Pretty frustrating that Sony is teasing an update thats not there and that i know depend on Sony to push release this Version. Reminds me of the horrible beginnings of Android when the manufacturers just couldn't be bothered to release updates.

They pulled the update a few days ago due to some random bugs, it'll start rolling out again in the next few weeks. Would strongly recommend you wait for an automatic over the air update rather than forcing it.

I hope they will release it soon for Asia-Pacific. The Marshmallow update for Europe just got released at the beginning of March, but was pulled back afterward for improvements. Hopefully, they will release them both soon.

At the very least they should remove the message about a software update from the "Featured apps" section at the top of my home screen (or update it with new information). I've had that "app" as the first thing in that section since December and it always looks like a new notification with the envelope icon that's on there, but it always nas the same message from 2016.
