Hey there, guys! I'm about to pull the trigger on a Mi Box, and I had a few questions. My goal is to have a dead simple setup for my wife to use.

Don't think you can have playlists like you're imagining on the home screen, but doing this in Kodi/SPMC should be a breeze.
There's a way to do it the way you want, but without prior experience/knowledge, it's basically a shit storm to try & explain online, to anyone & requires an Air Mouse/Trackpad. I've also never fully tested it to your 'extremes' (basically just deleted the icons off my homescreen I had inadvertently put there & discovered once I had installed & accessed Nova Prime to run along side the stock launcher on the Mi Box) so your best bet seems like it would be to do whatever everyone else recommends within Kodi/SPMC.

You would need Kodi or SPMC to do this. I wish they got rid of the recommendations and allowed for custom shortcuts, but unfortunately Android TV OS is still undeveloped (but fully functional). With Google's new Live TV service, hopefully Google will give the OS the same love as their touchscreen OS.
I will say, Kodi and SPMC are great apps. I also used FireTV, Roku, and Mi Box... the Mi Box is by far my favorite streaming device.
