New Android TV noob questions.

by Samdgadii

SONY TV's not a week old yet and I've figured out the basics of it. For background I've been a iOS & OS X user mostly since probably 03/04 (early Windows Vista days when I bought my last Windows PC). Haven't used any non Apple or payed much attention to non Apple OS's since. Just enough to be "in the need to know." So, there's just some Android/Android TV questions I have if this sub doesn't mind helping a bruh out. I've been looking up and at sub searches all morning and did find a few post that I saved to check out when I get home. A lot of them had old dates so we'll see. One of my questions has maybe been answered on the front page which is a SoundCloud App. The rest are followed:

TV MODEL - SONY BRAVIA XBR-65x750D

KODI question: I've been using it for years before the name change so I'm familiar with it deeply. When I tested to see if AirPlay works I get a never before seen error message along the lines of Device doesn't support airplay. Is this right, that either Android or the Sony TV (one of the two) just isn't having any of that airplay foolishness around here?

Chrome cast or Google cast (whichever it's currently called). Coming from iOS I'm a lot confused about this and for all the years all the info I've come across relay it as if I already have an understanding how it works. From what I gather it's not like airplay where it's built into the OS (strictly speaking about iOS), I have to specifically install a casting app? This is where it all stops making sense. Does casting happen from within the casting app or is downloading the casting app just open the casting feature to each app already installed? Secondly, for the tv itself do I need to open its cast app to start a casting or does it receiving it instantaneously?

Voice Search: Though I'm not a big voice search user (not even with Siri), I like having the option there. So far it hasn't worked and I'm wondering if my tv supports it. The included remote doesn't have a mic button, but every where it's either offering me voice search or saying my tv comes with it (manuals/tv settings). I've been enjoying the SideView app but trying to initiate it through it via iPhone/iPad still doesn't work. On the voice mic search icon on the tv itself when I press on it I get no response of any kind. Any info or help offered would be great.

Lastly for now is a Podcast App. I've saved a few post from searches that name one or two apps but they are really old post. Though I'm still going to look them up when I get home are they any Apps some of you are using in these current days. I only found one and it needs to be taken down from the store cause it's not even a solution for a tv.

Thanks in advance I very much appreciate it.

Just picking a bit out of the middle because I'm short on time.

That tv does not come with the voice search remote. You can find the remote for sale for about $60. Model is rmf-tx200u.

The 8 series and up come with it.

You can use the TV sideview app on your phone as a mic, however.

If your supplied remote does not support voice search, have no fear. The AppStore has an app called "Android TV", find it, install it and synchronize it with your TV. This essentially will let you voice search via the app, type and search and navigate through the channels or menus. Pretty handy. You can YouTube "Android TV app set up", etc if you get stuck.

For podcasts, you can use something like Pocket Casts on iOS or Android. Then you can cast the podcast from the app to your TV.

Will look into it. Thanks.

For casting, you download any app on your phone that has casting enabled (youtube app on android, as an example). When you open the app on your phone, you'll notice a "Casting" icon. When you click that, it will search for any devices on your network that accept casting (like your tv). Once you select your device, it should automatically load up the app on the device. I believe you will also need the same app installed on the device (so youtube would need to be both on your tv and your phone). But after that, you would do all the work on your phone. So you choose some youtube video and it will open the youtube app on your tv and start playing the video you selected.

For your podcast question, I'm unsure of any podcast apps that are made for android tv. However you do have the option of manually downloading regular android apps and installing them to your device. You can google for guides on how to do this (it's pretty simple) but the gist is that you will run regular android apps on your tv. Since these apps are meant for touch phones, you will need a mouse or one of those air-mouse remotes in order to use these apps.
