Shield TV Volume: gets very loud, then really quiet. Having adjust volume every 5 mins. Any way to normalize volume so adjusting not needed?

by macsmerf

This has been happening since the day I bought the Shield TV. I love everything about the box except this. Its hard to play anything late due to the noise. I just want it set the volume once and not have to worry about the TV blaring. Im running this box on an lg oled with a soundbar. i'm normally watching kodi, but im pretty sure this happens with everything.

Things i've tried to fix it:

  • turning volume all the way up on box, then controlling volume through shield: doesn't work
  • turning volume all the way up on shield, controlling with tv: doesn't work

Anyone else have this happen to them?

My TV has built in volume leveling. I turned it off and I don't think I've had any other issues with this.

I had a similar problem, but it was caused by the Shield remote.

The volume touch area was sending random up/down swipes. I switched to a Harmony remote a while ago, and it hasn't happened since.

To verify this, try unpairing the remote and only using the controller for a while.

Most soundbars have a feature to flatten out volume. It goes by many names.. TruSound, TruVolume, Dynamic Compression, Dynamic Range Compression, Compression, DRC, Night Mode, etc...

When this feature is enabled it will automatically raise the volume of low sounds and lower the volume of loud sounds to average/level them out.

On my Vizio branded soundbar, it is called TrueVolume. And I bought my soundbar specifically because of this feature.

Our vizio had this problem it was a setting with the tv audio options. Disable the audio leveling, it does not work with streaming boxes.

Sounds like the TV has built in volume leveling. Vizio is notorious for this too

You should try VLC.
