The various model numbers of Xiaomi's collection of Mi Box

1-MDZ-15-AA and MDZ-16AA- only 1gb ram and 4bg storage

2-MDZ-16-AB-(International version) 2gb ram/8gb storage/chipset-Amlogic S905X-H Quad core/chromecast built-in/google playstore

3-MDZ-18-AA-(Xiaomi TV 3 Enhanced)2gb ram/8gb storage/Chipset- MT8693 Hexa 6 Coree

4-MDZ-19-AA-(Xiaomi TV 3S)2gb ram/8gb storage/chipset-Amlogic S905X-H Quad core

5 MDZ-06-AA/AK which is 1gb/4gb MTK chipset and MDZ-09-AA/AK 1 or 2GB/4GB MTK chipset

Only models 15-AA (small square cube) and MDZ-18-AA are white in colour.

The remaining models conform to the common black, low slung, round edged profile. The remote layout for MDZ-16-AA / AB have the additional voice button.

ONLY MDZ-16-AB (international version) has ANDROID TV, the rest all run the Chinese UI as default. Hope this list helps.

It should be noted that Xiaomi never ever promoted any product except MDZ-16-AB aka MiBox3 as suitable for sale outside PRC.

With the exception of this specific model, all other Xiaomi boxes are intended exclusively for Chinese domestic consumption and are subject to the numerous software constraints dictated by their government.

Add to your list MDZ-06-AA/AK which is 1gb/4gb MTK chipset and MDZ-09-AA/AK 1 or 2GB/4GB MTK chipset.

Only models 15-AA (mibox Mini, white cube) and MDZ-18-AA White case, would stand out in a police line-up.

The remaining models conform to the common black, low slung, round edged profile typified by the MDZ-16-AB we westerners are familiar with.

This physical similarity and egregious use of modifiers such as "4K", "International", "2GB/8GB" S905X, and other misnomers used by unwitting or unscrupulous sellers lead to naive purchasers being misled to make purchasing mistakes.

The MiBox MDZ-16-AA was refreshed with a different remote and revamped AI aware O/S as the MiBox 3C, a lower price counterpart to MiBox 3S. These latest Xiaomi products sell for RMB 199 (~$US30) and RMB 299 (~$US44) at retail in PRC.

Thx koshergoy for listing out the other model numbers. I know for the Western masses it must be confusing and maybe frustrating with the many model numbers out there. Xiaomi really deserves a kick in their backside for it. But they probably maintained the design because it had already won them some awards and had a proven track record.

Just stick to legitimate retailers and online stores and those with enough genuine reviews before purchasing your Mi Box International Version. Make sure to confirm the model number. Not merely by the specs and colour.

I feel sorry for all the people who got duped. I wish the company would just label the products properly something to the effect like "This Product is only for use within the PRC"...
