I have created a home video with Adobe Premiere and exported it to an mp4. I created it in 4k [4096×2160], but when i play it on my TV and heard the sound, but no picture.
I re-exported the video in UHD [3840×2160] and this time i got picture and sound.
any thoughts/theories/reasons why this happened? can AndroidTV play [4096×2160] via USB or is [3840×2160] the max? Any help would be great, this has been very frustrating.

What video codec was the video encoded in? Check Sony's website for the supported codecs. Also, how many fps did your video have?
You could also try opening the video with a different video app, like VLC or MX Player Pro (with a codec pack).
