Yes, share the DVD drive on your windows network and add that shared source on your spmc install. It won't treat it as a native DVD player so you'll have to start the DVD manually through the file system, but it works perfectly even over WiFi. I've watched many DVDs playing from another room this way, and to my knowledge it's the only way.
