Screen tearing in VLC

by Hatsuyo

Hi guys, I hope this qualifies as a post that relates enough to android tv and hope someone can help me.

I have a Sony Bravia KD-55X8005C which is the American equivalent of Sony X810C, and I'm using VLC's local network SMB function to stream movies from my PC to the TV. However, during fast action scenes or when the view point of the camera is moving rapidly, the screen tears. I've tested it with different movies and different movie formats but it keeps happening. I'm using wired connections so I don't think it's a network matter either.

Don't have the problem when I hookup my laptop so I feel like it's related to my TV's settings or the settings in the VLC app but I have no clue what to look for. Does anyone have an idea?

My idea would involve not using VLC because it's not really the best app for Android. I'd recommend Kodi or Plex instead. I'd at least try a different video app because the problem might be VLC.

I've honestly, in some cases, gotten a better result even with their own built-in "Video" app. Running the 55X8505C here. It's just terrible for subtitles and selecting different audio streams. Was even able to watch a 4K Deadpool rip at about 50gb in size that would just not work in either plex or vlc. Haven't really tried kodi yet.

Why use VLC? Use Kodi and map it to the shared drive/folder and enjoy your files.
