Problems with Netflix on Sony Android TV

by ianrobbie

Just recently, I've started having some audio problems with Netflix on my Sony 2016 Android TV. Whenever I choose a movie, I get a crackling sound from my soundbar and the stream never goes past 94%.

Anyone else had this issue? I've tried "uninstalling updates" (you can't uninstall completely because it's a system app) and clearing the data/cache but nothing works.

Anyone have any ideas?

There's a new version of Netflix out today for Android TV.

Side load it from APK mirror if you want to try it now.

Sony Android TV and no problems. Audio output over HDMI ARC.

Try changing the audio settings, e.g. from compressed to full or audio mode front 1 to 2. How are the speakers connected?

When buffering does not work - reboot and reconnect to your network. What do you mean with 94%? I assume the steam starts or you wouldn't hear any sound.

Could you tell us if the soundbars is either Dolby or DTS supported? Of so, see if changing the audio stream in netflix changes this. By default it will try to push a 5.1 surround stream on these tv's (Same here on 2015 Sony AndroidTV). You can select a normal (Stereo) stream as well. Otherwise going into your settings and find the sound menu. Check what your digital output is set as (Either auto1/2 or PCM) and change those to see if this affects it.
