More apps in the future

by hitokiriknight

So what's the general feeling here about how successful Android TV is? I'm hoping for more apps from tv networks. I really liked using it at first but have reverted back to using my Xbox one since some of my favorite shows weren't on the available apps

Problem is how little devices are out there, im in australia and the nexus player is finished, besides that you can only find android tv on a small few sony tv's...

worldwide i think google needs to push androidtv onto more manufacturers, more set top boxes, more tv's, hell, throw it into blu ray players.

the more households that have android tv promotes more companies to adopt it and justify developing apps for it.

right now i think its future is in limbo

There isn't very many apps left that I need and don't have.

I'm pretty happy with the platform. I just want custom launchers now

The future might not be so bright, since I don't see google even listing AndroidTV devices on their US store:

I think the Killer App in the next few years will be

Cheap or free Over-The-Air DVR

https://androidtv.news/2016/10/live-channels-updated-supports-usb-tuners-adds-dvr-capabilities/

So, we're likely to see new devices like Sling's AirTV or a combo Tuner/Android TV box from SiliconDust.

Personally, I'd also like to see:

Cheap or Free live streaming of popular sports (in USA, that would mean having NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB), especially playoffs. Look for Internet companies to keep bidding on sporting events streaming rights.

Of course, the cheap or free won't happen because there aren't enough devices to get the advertising $$. I do prefer native TV apps to casting apps from my phone, but I guess it's too hard to beat the Chromecast's price points.

I am wondering why more tv makers don't jump on board. Is it just that most TV's not have the processing power for Android TV?
