Responsive Bias Lighting for Sony Android TV (for non-HDMI content)

by obnoxisus

Is there any responsive ( changes colour based on whats on the screen ) bias lighting solution ( preferably out-of-the-box vs DIY ) that I can use with my Sony Bravia Android Tv (KDL43W800c)?

Basically what I really really want is for the bias lighting to respond to video played off apps like Kodi/Youtube etc and also work with my set-top box. i.e. work with apps as well as through HDMI.

I've had a look at the Hyperion project and other ambilight clones but I can't get a lot of the parts and most only work off of HDMI inputs. Is there any out-of-the-box solution ( without the DIY tinkering ) that would work?

I would love to get an inexpensive solution ( one can dream ) but really any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I didn't want to invest in a DreamScreen (as awesome as it looks) and didn't feel like waiting for their 4K version. It also only works on HDMI sources. I already had Kodi installed in AndroidTV, so this plug-in does the trick for me, really well: https://github.com/mpolednik/script.kodi.hue.ambilight

It can match the colors, but I found that distracting after awhile. Instead I mostly use the "theater mode." Lights in the theater group act like wall lights in a typical theater. When playback of a movie starts, the lights dim automatically, and then they undim when playback is paused or ends. It's awesome :)
