Files recently added to Nvidia Shield TV external Hard Drives showing as 0 bytes.

Hey. So I get around the Android file adding issues by using FTP to move video files from my PC to the external drives on my shield. I've noticed that the files are fine for a few days and then randomly show up as 0 bytes within filezilla and on the ES file manager. Sometimes it fixes itself, but restarting is no guarantee, and other times I need to retransfer the files. The only thing that is certain is that it only happens to files added within the last couple of weeks. All my older files on the drives have no issues whatsoever.

If I move the drive to my PC then the files are available without any problems so I'm not inclined to think its a problem with the drive itself. Has anyone encountered this? found a fix? etc or is it just another weird shield bug to learn to live with?

Edit: From my comment below. 'I've found that if I manually select the 0 bytes files in X-plore they seem to wake up again and return to full file size and function'. Right now this solution is working for me every time.

Be only had this happen once recently, and I believe rebooting fixed it for me

I've encountered a similar bug. I have 3 portable USB drives connected to my Shield via a USB3 hub. One of my external USB drives, the same one every time, will randomly "kinda dismount" from the Shield. I say "kinda dismount" because the drive still shows as connected -- but just like OP it shows as 0 bytes. Troubleshooting solutions have been rebooting -- but sometimes the drive will still "kinda dismount" even after a reboot. Best solution has been unplugging/plugging in the USB drive, which seems to fix things until I power off. Any input would be most appreciated fellow members of SHIELD.

What format are the drives in? NTFS? Is the shield sleeping or powered down between these occurrences or always on? Have you recently upgraded the Shields OS?

I'm thinking permissions are messed up, (marshmallow gave me grief with external storage, so an update may have enabled this for you) or the HDD isn't properly waking back up (0 size because it's disappeared and not found now) but neither those correspond with timelines in your post.

You may have success using ext4 format if the NTFS driver is somehow buggy, shitty solution especially if they're full drives.
