I was thinking about buying the Mi Box but would want to run a wired connection and hear with an adapter often the usb will stop working or disconnect? So now I don't know if I want to buy it.
So are there any Android TV boxes on the horizon?

Just get a SHIELD. Unfortunately I don't think any others are coming, but the way the streamer box market is going, gets a good chance it won't include Ethernet either.
Just go with the shield.
If you want an Android TV box that has a real Ethernet port but don't want to spend the extra money on the Shield I would suggest the Air TV Player https://www.airtv.net/player/ It has similar specs to the Mi Box but has an Ethernet port and two USB 2.0 ports.
Solid Signal seems to have the best price. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=airtvplayer
It costs about $20 more than the Mi Box. It is geared toward Sling TV subscribers but it does run Android TV and you do not need a Sling TV account.
That being said, I would highly recommend buying the Shield if you can afford it. It isn't just for gaming. It is a much more reliable smoother running box than anything else running Android TV. IMO it is well worth the extra cost.
I picked up a nexbox a95x on sale for $26 and it runs Kodi smoothly. WiFi and Bluetooth reception work well as well.
It has a very effective wifi a and c. Try before you get an ethernet adapter and check this /r/ for known working adapters.
