Frequent reboots, lag, app crashes, weird input issues...

I have a Sony KD55X8500D Android TV running 5.1.1. Recently I've been having more and more issues with it. Tonnes of lag in the UI, random reboots, won't wake from sleep, issues with changing picture modes between inputs. You name it.

Is this normal? Is Android TV simply this buggy? Does it get better with Marshmallow (if that update ever comes)? Is there any way to remove all the Sony bloatware?

Do a factory data reset, and make sure you sign into your Google acct, all the apps need updated on the TV as well, only way to do that is through Google play Store on your TV.

Your operating system is almost 3 years out of date and it's running on a very cheap and low performing cpu.

Do a factory reset then Google search removing the bloat. It's pretty easy to remove the Sony shelf at least
