Xiaomi MDZ-18-AA jailbreak? please help

Hi, im fairly new to this so bare with me here. I recently bought a Xiaomi MDZ-18-AA from china so my grandparents can watch chinese program when they are here visiting for couple months. when i bought the box, the clerk told me its an international version so it should work here in the states. However when i plugged in and connected to wifi here, most of the program/channels are blocked due to copyright issues? only maybe 5% of the contents are able to play.

From what i understand, i need to root/jailbreak the box so it can trick the IP as in china in order to play the content?

Jailbreaking is an iOS/Apple thing. Rooting is an Android thing (really a linux thing).

Anyway, you don't need root here. Set up a VPN/DNS service at the router level.

All is not lost...

You may want to look at bbs.xiaomi.cn to see how other overseas Chinese handle the problems and suitable app suggestions.

Dont rely on the default highlighted video apps as most are geo-blocked.

There are many less restricted apps that can be accessed through Shafa Market, cool market, dangbei market and other vehicles like apkpure apk.

Look for apps from HDP, CIBN, Sohu and others. They will provide unfettered access to main national CCTV channels and other provincial content.

Still going to be a mess navigating around all the AI suggestions that clutter the home page. Consider installing a simpler home launcher which can focus on your downloaded apps.

set up a vpn on it with a china server. there are alot of VPNs with android apps that can do that.
