kind of underwhelmed with androidtv. thoughts?

situation: my very first streaming device the mi box.

performance is fine as am using usb to ethernet adapter.

however just seems to me like androidtv is an unfinished product. many apps have no rewind/forward options (podcasts on tunein radio, etc)

user interface seems in consistent, etc

thoughts?

Yeah, I'm puzzled as to why the general practice is to dumb down and simplify Android TV apps in comparison to their mobile counterparts.

With Android Auto it makes sense, as you can argue that it's done for safety reasons.

With Android TV apps I'm always left missing some configuration option or feature that's important to me with the phone or web version of the app.

With Google Play Music I can't browse by recently added tracks, and the app insists on showing its own picture of the artist while music plays instead of showing the high quality album art I've added for every album.

With Youtube I miss the ability to add or remove items from my 'watch later' list and to view youtube comments if I'm crazy enough to want to do that.

I would say Twitch for Android TV is a good example of an app that functions exactly like its web and mobile counterpart, with all the features and options built in. I wish more were like that.

There's no good reason to dumb down an Android TV app when it's so easy to plug and play any type of wired or unwired keyboard and mouse or keyboard and touchpad with an Android TV device.

Download Haystack TV. Very simple, and easy to find something to watch.

Also Pluto TV.

The attention simply isn't there for Google or developers. If it weren't for Nvidia making powerful box, I think Android TV would be dead. I only use it now for a Plex server and the Apple TV for everything else since the OS and apps are much better. Even unofficial Twitch apps on the Apple TV are better than the native Android TV app. I'm hoping Google Assistant or Android O adds more value.
