Ethernet for MiBox

by whatsupdac

Whenever I am streaming any live tv or sports via spmc it constantly lags and buffers. Would getting a USB to Ethernet adapter solve this issue? Does the Ethernet cable increase speeds on the mi box? Thanks.

There are tons of factor to consider here.. its possible that the source is the culprit. What's your broadband speed? Have you tried streaming using reliable live tv streams like from sling tv, pluto tv?

It's going to depend on:

Your internet speed. Your wireless router speed and configuration. Your wireless network signal quality to the mi box. The quality of the source content.

USB 2.0 can handle 4k 60 fps HDR streams just fine. So once you get to that point, anything faster is being wasted.

USB 3.0 dongle will allow your Mi Box to go around 250 Mbit/s. At least that's what I got when I used this one and ran a speedtest:

At 250 Mbit/s you can run multiple 4k streams and not even cap out.

I have bought 3 hubs so far and only this one works and retains ethernet connectivity even after you suspend/sleep the Mi Box overnight.

Probably.

Some people here will say yes others will say no. From what I've read, the USB connector actually won't allow for "faster" speeds (due to hardware used in the Mi Box itself) if you have a router capable of 802.11AC but, if you have a lot of interference, wifi network congestion or poor wifi reception, it could help. It just depends on the root cause of the issue.

I would recommend getting an Ethernet adapter.

I stream to mine from a satellite box to the mi box using spmc. Before I got an Ethernet adapter I would get stuttering, as soon as I got one the problem went away. The connection speed is slightly slower, but the stability greatly improved.

I've been using this one for the past couple months with no issues. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019GLIJ0Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have a great router and my parents have (now had) an older B/G one, I had to buy them an ethernet adapter for their Mii Box to stream higher bitrate mkvs (real nice 1080p encodes) locally over their network. Mine works just fine wirelessly. I recently upgraded their router to the same one I have (Asus RT-AC68U) and the same mkvs stream perfectly now. I did forget to unplug the network adapter though so that was still over wired.

Here's the one I bought them:

It could also be the add-on sources. I'm finding quite a few are horrible streaming sources. It could be other factors but try popcorn flix and see if it is of good quality. If they are not jittery then it is the streaming sources you are accessing.

People use pirate streams and constantly blame the box or Kodi or their internet. When it's most likely the unreliable, unauthorized source of the content. First rule of trouble shooting streams try some different streams. In this case try some professional streams. Netflix, Hulu YouTube. If this don't stream properly then we can go from there.

Are you using those crappy, pirate 3rd party addons?

If so, no amount of high quality internet is going to help you.
