Can't connect phone to Xiaomi MXQ Pro 4k

by boetboet

When I use the 'cast audio/screen' function on my phone, through 'Google Home' It doesn't recognize the MXQ. They are on the same wifi (mxq isn't even plugged in via cable). I also tried using the Android TV remote control app from google to control it, but no luck. However, I can connect spotify via the in-app function.

I now have an android tv box that can't make the simplest connection with an android phone..

Tried installing google home on the mxq but play store says my device isn't compatible, thought maybe that would help with the cast function.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

This is not an Android TV box.

Xiaomi doesn't make that Android box.

Regular touchscreen Android is made for handheld devices and doesn't act as a cast receiver. You use it to cast to devices that act as receivers. Devices that can accept a cast include Chromecasts and Android TV devices.

What you bought is basically a cheap smartphone without a display. Whoever made it just pulled down an open source copy of Android and got it working to a point where they can sell it off as a "TV box" running Android. It's a marketing trick for them.

The official operating system for the living room from Google is Android TV OS and it was forked from Android by Google themselves. They work closely with OEMs to make products that run that OS. This subreddit is for those devices.
